2019 MOAA JROTC Scholarship Awards

The MOAA Central Florida Chapter is proud to announce that six JROTC cadets received our 2019 JROTC MOAA Scholarship Awards. The competition to select the most highly qualified cadets was again very challenging for our MOAA selection board. There are 31 different High Schools in our catchment area that compete for scholarship funds. The cadets are selected based on scholastic achievements, community service, leadership skills, and a desire to become future leaders in our military. In addition, we present medals and award certificates to one outstanding JROTC cadet within each of the High Schools, and we award two scholarships to ROTC cadets at the University of Central Florida (UCF). Our MOAA Chapter scholarship fund awarded a check for $1,000 to each of the six cadets. As a personal thank-you, I would like to recognize LtCol Mike Gillett and his wife Vicki, for their generosity to personally fund our 6th cadet. The MOAA scholarship program is just one of the many ways our Chapter gives back to our military community, and I highly encourage our members to generously donate to our scholarship fund to support this worthy program. We have set our JROTC scholarship goal for $10,000 in 2020, and we will be pursuing donations from a variety of sources. We are always looking for Chapter members to assist in presenting awards, and mentoring your local JROTC or ROTC cadets. Congratulations to all the cadets, and their cadre for the tireless hours they put into their cadets, and the families of the cadets for supporting their children's dreams of serving a greater cause than themselves!
