Challenge 22 10th Annual Ruck Walk

Challenge 22 10th Annual Ruck Walk

Join us for the 10th Annual Challenge 22 Ruck Walk – Saturday, Nov 14th in downtown Winter Garden, FL

Walk alongside veterans, families, and supporters as we raise awareness for Post-Traumatic Stress and stand together for veteran mental health.

Your registration helps fund resources, outreach, and community support so PTS doesn’t claim more veteran lives. Lace up, add some weight to your ruck if you’re able, and move with purpose—every step shows our veterans they are not alone.  You can participate in-person or sign up to walk virtually.

Please do your part to help us meet our goal this year to have 2,200 people participate in honor of the 22 who we lose each day due to injuries from their service to our nation.

Thanks

Federal Benefits Guide

2026 VA Federal Benefits Guide

National Veterans Outreach Office of the Department of Veterans Affairs is pleased to present the “2026 VA Federal Benefits Guide for Veterans, Dependents, Survivors, and Caregivers“. https://department.va.gov/get-started/

This link takes you to the “Get Started” page where you can see the links to the 2026 Benefits Guide and the “HELLO Welcome to the VA Let’s Get Started”.

Download your 116 page 2026 VA Federal Benefits Guide for Veterans, Dependents, Survivors and Caregivers: https://department.va.gov/wp-content/uploads/2026/09/2026-Federal-Benefits-for-Veterans-Dependents-and-Survivors_web.pdf

Don’t know what VA benefits and care are available? Not sure which you’re eligible for? The annual Federal Benefits Guide provides information on benefits and services currently available by law and regulation.

The updated handbook contains a comprehensive listing of VA programs, including phone numbers and websites for easy reference. The Federal Benefits Guide hosts a wealth of information on most VA benefits and services, including:

  • Compensation
  • Life insurance
  • Pension and fiduciary services
  • Education benefits
  • Economic development and employment
  • Home loan guaranty programs and housing assistance
  • Mental health resources

The handbook will help Veterans, service members and their families understand the full scope of available VA resources so that they can make the most of life after service. It provides details on eligibility requirements for each benefit, and because VA serves different generations of Veterans, outlines the qualification guidelines for distinct periods of service to clarify eligibility for Veterans with service spanning both peace and wartime periods.

President’s Message 10-2026

After a long summer, we are now back in business to once again break bread with our MOAA family members on October 13th.  I’m looking forward to meeting a few new MOAA members who we hope will become new members of our Chapter.  We are in the odd month for our full Focus Newsletter, so I’ll keep this short!  We have three great speakers on tap to discuss a nationwide effort between the American Legion and the Veterans Administration (VA) to provide a place where veterans of all ages can come together to support one another through gaming. A structured Veteran Gaming Program builds on that mission by using teamwork-based gaming to reconnect veterans, support mental wellness, and strengthen engagement in a modern, stigma-free way. Both organizations are reaching out to our veterans to provide Camaraderie with a Purpose!

Additionally, I was reminded earlier this year, after seeing my face on the cover of the Orange County “Elder Care” brochure, that until now, there has not been a lot of emphasis on helping our aging veterans, families, and surviving spouses.  I encourage you to look at the last article, “Veterans Counseling Veterans – Serving Our Elderly Veterans Summit at Orlando Lake Nona VA Oct. 10. I talked to the Director of Lake Nona VA, Mr. Tim Cooke, and he informed me he is pulling out all the stops to get informative and knowledgeable guest speakers to attend this first-of-a-kind Summit. Hope to see everyone at our luncheon on October 13th!

Cheers, Lorraine
